Field goals w/o a field?

Field goals in football and soccer make sense to me bc there is a field. Wtf is a field goal in basketball? I guess "court goal" doesn't flow off the lips as well. That's a good reason, good enough for me anyhow. What's the equivalent to baseball? There isn't one, right? Bc w baseball every run is a point and there's no way to get points other than runs. In football a field goal is just one of the few ways to get points. Soccer ... same. Basketball ... Idk. There's 2 pointers and 3 pointers. What's a field goal?

Ps - I don't want to Google this yet. I'm going to stew on the mystery while I get my nails done.

Those are hand warmers, Kelsey . Not fanny packs.

I've been getting reminded that I don't know that much about football, and the title to this blog reflects that! It makes total sense to have hand warmers as part of the uniform. I remember PE and how much it hurt to grab/touch/drop the ball while my fingies were cold. If millions of dollars were on the line, that would be a stupid weakness to allow.

Hmmmm....who to root for next week . . . ?

I cannot WAIT for next Sunday.  After two more fun games, I get one of my most favorite holidays of the year - SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!!!  While pretending to work this afternoon, I spent about an hour doing some shopping for my Food, Booze, and Flooze uniform, and I've already mentally prepared myself to make 100 jalapeno poppers and a variety of dipping sauces.  Next on the to-do list is to determine who am I going to root for, besides Madonna of course.  But before I can do that, I have to figure out who to root for next weekend.

Between the 49ers and Eli Manning's team, that one is clear to me.  I cannot fathom cheering for the 49ers b/c my dad instilled some serious hatred for them when I was a little girl in the 80s.  I admit that I don't even know why he hated them or if he still does.  I think it had something to do with being a huge Cowboy fan, or Joe Montana's curly hair?  It probably had nothing to do with the hair actually.  Shoot, I don't know what I'm talking about.

The real reason is because I've been sprung on Eli Manning since I first saw him.  I love his nose and his sloppy hair and his "little brother eager to please his daddy and show up his big bro" will to win.  He comes across as all rednecky and kind of daft and that pleases me.  PLUS, once I realized how much my man and most dudes I know despise him, it gave me some compassion ("oh why does everyone hate you, Eli?  No need to be sad, my sexy, big-nose super star - they are just jealous of you!!).  Right?  Ummmm...so on to the next choice.

Ravens v. Patriots.  I don't know much about either of these teams and I don't have a preference for these guys based on anything in real life, so I'm going to go ahead and get real superficial for once.  (ha - get it?)  I had to Google the rosters to remind myself who the token hot guy on the Patriots was.  For a second I thought it was Eli's big brother and I was sad about the idea of them having to fight in front of everyone.  It made me watch this clip from A League of Their Own when big sis dropped the ball and Kit got a home run but everyone doubted whether she actually earned it or not.  That was horrid.

Good thing it's Tom Brady!  Meh.  Not really into Tom Brady.  But I think the Ravens are kind of hilarious!  Their mascot is a sort-of scary bird.  Hahahahahaha!  Plus, if I root for them I can wear a go-go outfit and be like, "I'm fuckin RAVEN!" while I shoot shots and eat football food and get real rowdy.  There you have it.

Next Sunday - Go Ravens, Go Eli, Go Go Gadget get hammered.

Wham BAMA that was lame

I'm so proud of myself!  I made some more progress on the goal I re-stated in my blog about food, booze and flooze.  I say "progress" b/c I came to the boys' house after work so I could only be floozy within the limits of what I wear to work + a few little adjustments.  And, no one was drinking.  But I did make a delicious spinach cheese dip and toasted bread that was fresh, delicious as described as "fucking phenomenal!"  Every little bit of effort I make wins me awesome-points, right?

So about the game.  As everyone who watched it knows (and everyone else on Facebook knows by now) that was a weak game.  I was also really bored by the vibe associated with the neutrality of the boys in the room.  No one cared who won, they "just wanted a good game."  Well, they didn't get the good game, and the lack of a loyalty factor meant I missed out on the yelling and cussing and good-natured ribbing.  Although the laughing at the mistakes and the articulate critiques of performance we're sort of cute and sometimes interesting.

So tonight I did some Remote Desktop Access while intermittently taking notes on things that caught my attention during the game.

  1. I love that they keep saying, "McCarran" because it makes me think about partying in Las Vegas!
  2. 3rd quarter; 13:04-ish: did you see that twisty plank landing #15 on the Alabama team did when he got tackled?  That form made me think of boot camp class.  I bet his obliques were burning.
  3. I researched what "fair catch" meant on the Google because no one would tell me what it was.  They were all discussing whether you could catch it below your chest and were ignoring my pretty little questions.  A-holes.
  4. The Honeybadger don't care joke was funny . . . the first time.  (see hilarious video for the backstory on that one)
  5. After hearing Crimson Tide one million times, I searched online for a clip of Clueless when Claire makes her awesome excuse to leave class.  Couldn't find that clip, but had fun watching a couple of others!  I love that movie.
  6. And last but not least - BSU made the talk of the Championship game!
