Football turns into Basketball, and we all rejoice

Christmas is weird, I'm drinking cocktails, and my man has the basketball game on.  I feel like it's a great time to talk about the transition from football to basketball.  I'm not sure if I like one more than the other.  Football is great b/c it's "big" and basketball is good b/c it's "fast."  I think I'm more entertained by basketball just because it seems like there is more going on and my ADD doesn't get as bored as fast, but maybe it's just b/c the ball is more noticeable and exchanges hands more often within shorter distances.  In basketball, the dude's aren't as big and aggressive.  Well, actually I'm sure the feelings of aggression are similar, it's just that the contact level is different.  There are also different muscles emphasized in basketball.  In football games, I get my entertainment by checking out asses, thighs and forearms.  Basketball is more about shoulders, backs and forearms (I always notice the forearms). I'm not saying one set of man meat is better - just highlighting a distinction in uniform emphasis.  I wonder if the abdominal muscles are distinct?   Hmmm...I'll let that one sink in for a while.

In the last few minutes, I zoned out and really did try to pick a favorite b/w basketball and football, and decided that was completely unnecessary.  Why choose - I can like both equally!  I can enjoy the overlap period when I get both sports, and then peacefully transition into the basketball-only season via a super sweet Super Bowl party.  The, March Madness comes up pretty quick after that.  This year, I'm DETERMINED to get hammered and watch basketball more often during March.  Mark my words, bartenders!  KJ is coming for you.

My cute little niece just asked me to be done so I can come play.  I guess that's as good a reason as any to sign off.   HOLLER!

This girl is looking for some inspiration!

I'm determined to only write about things that intrigue me and to stay genuine.  I thought about writing about fantasy football, fight songs, why the quarterbacks get all the attention (like the lead singers in rock bands - what about the bass player man?!?!), and perhaps the epic battle Jesus must face when deciding who prayed the hardest to win.

That seems like a good to-do list, right?

Be sexy, bring drinks, and make food. It's not that hard!

When I started dating my boyfriend, he told me that he likes to watch sports a lot and that he hoped it wouldn't bother me.  I said that if it ever did bother me, I'd just go do something else.  I don't need to try to make him watch The Notebook or talk to me about girlie things instead.  He thought that was cool.  Also, in my desire to impress him, I even said I would wear this sexy costume and wait on his boys while they watched the game.  I never purchased that costume, and today I thought about how lame that is!  Yesterday I had tons of fun wearing my Vandal leg warmers around town and it just got me thinking.

Thus, the topic of my blog today - the importance of looking good and acting awesome while his friends are over watching sports.

Boys like hot chicks that don't bitch.  They like beer and food and sports.  It's really quite simple.  If you combine all those things, you will have a bunch of happy boys!  And what is more fun than a room full of drunk happy boys?  I love being surrounded by drunk happy boys!

Last year, I perfected a homemade, healthy jalapeno popper recipe and I delivered beers and made nachos a few times, but if I remember correctly I was wearing sweatpants.  And I didn't do it that much.  I hereby re-up my commitment to dressing a little slooty and doing nice things for all my drunk guy friends.  Now when's the next party?!?

Blaming the top dogs - the failure spectrum

As I've mentioned, I'm no sports expert.  But I love to learn about things.  My new favorite investigatory journey is the moment when the boosters/fans decide that it's time to fire the coach.  This does not occur suddenly, as there is a balance b/w the coach sucking strategically and the guys on the field effing up directly. I bet that bad moves and mistakes fall along the spectrum of "the coach crafted good plays that the team messed up" and "the coach called stupid plays that the team executed."  Along that spectrum, physics, luck, the other team, cold fingers, sun, wind, girlfriends judging from the stands, ghosts, performance enhancing drugs, etc. all play a role in how things play out.  It's a complicated formula of skills, commitment, and big sexy muscles.

So what drives the decision that it's finally time for a new coach because the team is totally shittay?

This weekend at the Vandal game I was listening to some of my favorite men discussing Akey's future as it directly correlates to the Vandal suck-train.  It wasn't so long ago that everyone loved him so much.  Shoot, he still rasps not-so-sweet nothings to me in my daydreams . . .but I digress.  For those w/o the Coach Akey Makes Me Horny shirt, the honeymoon is over.  Apparently?  Hopefully he gets it together and we can ride his stache to victory once again before the frat boy mafia takes him out.

And "the coach getting it together" . . . that brings me to the next interesting thought I was given today about another underperfoming team that has tasted greatness.  What if you love your team so much (like, A LOT), and they keep losing so bad that everyone is almost ready to fire the coach, and that makes you pseudo-happy b/c the coach and his supporting staff are total douchers and you want them gone, but you're not really happy b/c your team sucks, but if the team stops sucking and starts winning again the coach will be spared?  What do you do - hope that your team loses to sacrifice the coach?  Is the long-term health and success of your team worth the short term losses?  Even if so, how can you accept the fact that you are rooting for your team to lose?  That sounds like such a moral dilemma.  One that would really tug at the loyalties and complicated sports-driven thought processes of the guy who is already suffering enough.  I don't envy those football fans who find themselves in that stressful position, but I certainly find them entertaining!   And, as a supportive friend, I'd buy them a PBR.  That's right.  An ice cold, delicious PBR.

Nothing intelligent to say about the BCS bummer for the Donks

Tonight, the facebook/twitterverse is exploding with the disappointment from my Bronco friends.  I remain under-informed about the nuances of the BCS system, despite watching enthralling videos like the spelling bee analogy (Funny Video Here) and half-way listening to people who know/care try to explain it.

I get the basics - Broncos don't get in even though they win almost all of the time and this causes fury and is blamed on the "man" and his archaic, snooty ways.  Now they are in a bowl game that isn't good enough to let them prove how good they are, thus restarting the cycle of them not being able to prove how good they are and play better games next year.  The rest is just unnecessary details.  Especially for me, a fan/graduate of the University of Idaho.  At the UI, our football chants include, "Win or Lose, There's Always Booze!"  Girls like me take great pleasure in getting drunk and singing the [awesome] fight song with frat boys of all ages, regardless of the score.  We don't need to manage our expectations, because we don't have them.  "Hey we aren't losing yet!  Yippee!!!" runs through my mind more often than not.

But this isn't about UI, as the Broncos like to remind me everytime I laugh at their loss and disappointment. This is about ASU!  I think I'm excited to root for ASU against BSU in the MAACO bowl.  I was thinking first that I could turn this into a UI thing by saying that ASU's coach Dennis Erikson used to be the Vandal coach, so it was like rooting for the Vandals against BSU sort of, but my mad Google-fact-checking skills just told me he got fired recently.  Oh well, I have clearly deliberated this match up enough.  Go Sun Devils!

Rudolph #82 - what a catch

Wow, that was an amazing catch/grab/hold/completion/touch down.  hahaha.  he must have very strong forearms, if you know what i'm sayin.

First Post - Raw man emotions get me goin~

Aah, this morning's NFL Pre-Game show made me laugh as usual but it was also very sentimental and sweet.  First, Howie (who I thought was "fine" in elementary school and continue to find incredibly sexy and cool), gave a touching tribute to a friend who just died.  I don't know who that guy is, but he seemed very special to a lot of people.  Then, towards the end of the show sweet beb Michael Strahan gave a nice explanation of the emotional trauma associated with retiring from professional athletics as part of his defense of Donovan McNabb's decision not to quit (yet).   The best part was when Terry looked over at him and gave him a nod and a nice and they they all made some deep eye contact.  That shit is real men emotion and I love it!

Ooh the game is starting now!  Broncos v. Vikings.  I like the Vikings b/c that was my high school mascot and i don't like the Broncos just because some of my guy friends really hate Tim Tebow, who I think is buff and good looking from most angles.  My football loyalties are superficial and revolve around what the boys in my life like.

This is me, with all my infinite wisdom.
